The Clock

A large cedar clock and a hoopoe to guide pupils: they read the time and move the minute hand, and the hour hand follows by itself, just like a real clock. A third mode works out durations from concrete situations.

What pupils practice

How to play

  1. Choose an activity: Tell the time, Set the hands, Durations or Mix.
  2. To tell the time, the pupil chooses from 4 answers.
  3. To set the hands, they drag the red hand or use the ±5 min and ±1 h buttons.
  4. For durations, a timeline splits the time up to the full hour, then the whole hours, then the rest.

In the classroom

Ask pupils to predict where both hands will be before moving them. It is the best moment to deal with confusion between the long and short hands.

In 24-hour format, the sky changes with the time of day: ask pupils what they are doing at that time.
